Fall is a busy birthday time. My boys were born in August and September and I usually throw the boys a joint party in easy September. This year we are organizing a lego themed party. {details coming soon!!!} I like to have a few little things to put around the house to decorate on the big day. This little DIY Happy Birthday Banner is just the thing. It’s small to store and cute on the table.
I had fun with this one! Look, you can personalize it with the names of everyone in your family too!
Want to make one? Here is what you will need:
2 milk bottles {or something that looks like one}
Sand to fill the bottles
2 wooden or plastic rods to tie the ribbon to
Ribbon {at least 3 yards}
Felt in various colors 1/4 yrd
I made my Happy Birthday letters in two layers. White on the bottom and then a color on top. Cut out your white letters with a tab on top. You will use these tabs later to sew on the ribbon. My letters are around 3 x 1 1/2 inches… plus the tab on top. I wanted this to be a table top decoration, so I kept them pretty small.
Now, this can also be a no-sew project if you want… use hot glue if you want this option. If you are going to sew this… you can use a needle and thread with embroidery floss. Or you can use a sewing machine, like I did! Sew each letter once around.
Take all the letters and then pin them to a ribbon. Sew along the bottom of the ribbon and the top too, if your tabs are too big trim.
The name garlands I made a single layer, but still added the tabs on top.
I made one for each member of my family.
cute, right? I love the way it turned out and the fact that it will fold up small when we don’t need it out.
Won’t this look cute on our table? This will be the perfect for our birthday dinner celebration. Here is the other birthday banner that I made years ago… Its a fun one too.

Felt! What a great idea. They stuck out at first and I thought, those look really neat, I wonder how she made them pop? Super fun and easy!
