Thanks for sharing a nice tutorial. I understand the no head photo I often cut my head off in my pics. My face gets a weird expression as soon as a camera goes off. Your top is great.

The tank turned out great. I really need to sew things for myself! Thanks for sharing at Terrific Tuesdays.

Awesome job! I’m definitely going to give this a whirl! I’m not sure I can squeeze into a small, but I can play with it. I’m always making stuff for my daughter, so I’d like to try this one for myself. I found you over at Sew Much Ado and now I’m following you along. I love find fellow sewers 🙂
Hope you have a chance to check me out too.
Take care,
Jen

I love the idea of the gathers just in the middle. It’s a really nice pattern.

how would this be in a knit??
Taryn Morvillo says
Simple answer? It would be great. More accurate answer – it depends on several factors; like what type of knit fabric(cotton jersey, interlock, double knit . . .) you wanted to use, which might need some stabilizing in the shoulder and yoke seams – you can use clear elastic, twill tape, even the selvedges from a tightly woven fabric . . . The beauty of this pattern, to me, is that it is simple and easy to sew yet has shape and detail, requires very little fabric, AND being able to fit over your head without needing any closures! No cursing at zippers (for me) or sewing on buttons, or needing to cut fabric on the bias – looks great, works, but is hardly an economical cut. It also means no swearing at my machine as it gobbles up knit fabric – I’m trying to learn to love sewing with knits on my regular machine, I am sergerless and okay with that for now, but then I find a pattern like this, and a yard of gorgeous sea glass colored linen on the remnant table for $2.99, and the knit goes into the UFO pile until . . . I WANT to like to sew with knits, but I just don’t feel it like I feel when sewing up a crisp lawn sundress for summer . . . tank tops with knits are easy to make patterns for because they stretch and are forgiving in fit, but if you’re like me, the best pattern in the world won’t make it sew itself, and make my machine not eat the stuff, and the seams still come out ripply even with tissue paper and a walking foot and a twin needle… and I can just picture myself trying to pin together the yoke seam and clear elastic and finally using like four layers of steam-a-seam… a lot of work for something I can buy at Walmart for $5. A linen tank with yoke detailing that fits me perfectly at 5’1″ and short-waisted to add injury to insult? Not gonna find that at Walmart for $5. So – if you can get the yoke stabilized in a nice light cotton jersey in less than the 20 tries it would take me, then it WOULD be great! Thanks for the pattern! (Sorry for rambling!)

Hi! I love the look of this tank top and am thinking of making the modifications for the maternity size as I am pregnant with our first child and will be at my biggest over the summer this year. I’ve printed your pattern, but im just wondering-do I need to add seam allowance all the way around each pattern piece, or do i just cut out the fabric as it is on the pattern? Many thanks!
Emily says
you can cut out just as is… should work fine. Measure the pattern pieces and then yourself to double check the size. You can always add a bit at the sides if you need, or take it in too ;o) I would LOVE to see what you end up with! Send me a photo, please ;o)
